Derek Jeter is right.
He correctly stated in a recent interview that when the media refers to the "Steroid Era" it is unfair to put every successful player in the "musta used steroids" category. While, in life, it becomes easy categorize players with guilt by association, such reference is a disservice to those who play the game by the rules and are great players without the use of performance enhancing drugs. The sweeping generalization that 'everyone did it" is ludicrous. Hall of Fame Players such as Cal Ripken, Tony Gwynn and yes, even Derek Jeter, deserve better. I can say with extreme confidence, that those were, and are, players who respect the game too much to contaminate it with the use of illegal, or unapproved, substances.
Derek Jeter should be applauded for stepping up to the plate and calling the media and the public out on such accusations. It would be quite refreshing if others would step up and do the same.
