Joel Kirsh Blog On NCAA March Madness

As March Madness fast approaches and having watched the incredible 6 overtime thriller between UConn and Syracuse last night (boy am I tired today!!), I am, once again, reminded of the beauty of NCAA hoops and this annual event.

In recent weeks, I have heard talk about eliminating automatic bids and taking only the top 65 teams. That is crazy and such talk should be dispelled immediately. We crave cheering for the little guy, we love the movie Hoosiers, we are glad David kicked Goliath's butt and it makes us feel good when the underdog wins. Its what sports and competition are all about. Tell me one person who doesn't love seeing tiny George Mason in the Final 4, Butler advancing to the Sweet 16, Gonzaga advancing deep etc....and that person is NOT a true sports fan.

The NCAA Basketball tournament is popular because we can always expect the unexpected....I, for one cannot wait til it starts and desperately hoping for that 16 seed to FINALLY knock that No. 1 seed off its pedestal.
